Welcome, Sponsored Guest!
Congratulations! You have been invited to have a CalNet Sponsored Guest account by a campus employee. Here’s how to accept the invitation:
Check your email account, and find the invitation from the UC Berkeley Sponsored Guest application.
Open the email, and click the first link to accept the invitation and open the Guest App in a web browser.
Click the checkbox to agree to terms of service, and then click on the red Google Login button at the bottom of the page. Note: although our invitation may have been sent to a non-Gmail email address, you must use a Google login to accept the invitation. Create one if you do not have one.
Log in using your Google credentials, and then the confirmation page will display with your name and email address.
Upon successful registration, you will also receive a confirmation email to your Google account. This email provides account information including expiration date. Guest accounts expire one year after they are created, but can be extended by your sponsor.
- Wait a few minutes! It will take a few minutes for data to reach CalNet after you activate your account.
To log in using your CalNet Sponsored Guest account:
- Navigate to the campus application that you want to use (an example is bcourses.berkeley.edu)
- Find and click the login button. Some application pages automatically prompt you to log in.
- From the login screen, locate the Sponsored Guest Sign In link, and click it
- Click the red Google Login button (see image above)
- Sign in with your Google credentials
- If you activate your Guest Account and immediatly try logging into an application, you may get an error: This app is not authorized to use CAS. Just wait a few minutes, and try again.
If you try to log and do not see the Sponsored Guest Sign In link, that means the service you are logging in to does not allow guests. Contact your sponsor to verify what you are supposed to log in to.
Q: I never received an invitation email
A: Contact your sponsor to determine whether the invitation was sent, and to what email address.
Q: I clicked the link to log in with Google and accept my guest invitation, but there's no Google login button.
A: Check that your browser doesn't have pop-up blockers or plugins that prevents the button from displaying. If you still have trouble, copy the invitation link and paste it into a different web browser.
Q: How do I get a sponsored guest account?
A: You must be sponsored by a campus employee. If you are collaborating on a project, contact your campus partner for assistance. If you are auditing a class, contact the professor for help.
Q: Can CalNet sponsor a guest account for me?
A: No. CalNet employees are not allowed to create guest accounts for community members that they are not collaborating on a project with.
Q: What if I don't know my password?
A: CalNet cannot assist you with changing your Google password. Please review Google support documentation for assistance.
Q: I got an error when I tried to log in to a campus application: This app is not authorized to use CAS
A: If you have just activated your sponsored guest account, wait a few minutes and try again. If you have already activated your sponsored guest account and have successfully logged in to other applications, contact the service provider for the application you are trying to log in to.
Q: I do not see the Sponsored Guest login link
A: Only applications that allow access to sponsored guests will display the login link. If you do not see the link, contact your sponsor to verify what you are supposed to log in to. If your sponsor believes you should be able to log in to an app that does not currently allow guests, they will need to contact the application owner for assistance.
