New Changes to Duo Browser Workflow

On April 5, 2022, UC Berkeley will implement Duo’s new browser experience called Universal Prompt. This new version will impact the look and feel of the authentication screen, increase accessibility, and streamline the verification process. This change will not impact the Duo App for mobile devices.

Users do not need to do anything to get the new browser experience, provided they are using a Recommended Browser for CalNet Services. However, we do  encourage users to watch this short video showing the new process to familiarize yourself with the change.

What’s Changing:

After entering in your CalNet credentials, your browser will notify you that an authentication prompt has been sent to the registered device using your most recent method as the default. A side-by-side visual of this change is available below.

If you need to select a different method for authentication, click on “Other Options'' and a list of your registered devices will be displayed. To add or edit your registered devices, go to mycalnet.berkeley.edu.

Once you have authenticated, click “Yes, trust browser” and the browser will automatically remember you for 30 days.

If you select “NO, do not trust this browser,” you will still authenticate and continue onto your desired site; however, you will be prompted to re-authenticate each time you log into an application on that browser.

How to User the New Duo Browser Workflow

In this short video we will walk you through using the new Duo prompt workflow.

Want to try it out?

  1. Open a private or incognito window in your browser
  2. Go to: https://2step-test.calnet.berkeley.edu/
  3. Login and experience!

In addition to the new look and feel:

  • Mac / iOS “remember me” will work across browsers

  • The new prompt will be enabled for the bSecure VPN

  • And for applications that allow the "remember me" function, users will now see this option after the prompt

  • “Yes, Trust Browser” replaces the “Remember me for 30 days” checkbox (i.e., it places a cookie in the browser that is good for 30 days or until you clear the browser cookies.)
