CalNet wins Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Award!

December 10, 2018

We are pleased to announce that the CalNet Team has won the Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Award (COSA) for implementing the CalNet 2-Step multi-factor authentication system for all employees at the University of California, Berkeley.

COSA awards are given annually, and are awarded based on criteria such as innovation, adaptation, and efficiency, and enhancing Berkeley’s mission and reputation.

The innovative 2-Step project helped the University make a vital change in a world where our data is constantly at risk. In this digital age, it is increasingly important that our data is protected from bad actors who could misuse it. It is the responsibility of the University to ensure that our data is properly protected.

The CalNet team responded to the call to order and utilized CalGroups, bConnected collaborative tools, and existing mycalnet.berkeley.edu infrastructure, along with the Duo MFA application, to provide an easy-to-use system with accurate supporting documentation. The implementation took a remarkably short three months to onboard 32,300 employees campus-wide. Following the success of the employee effort, 2-Step was then rolled out to all students and affiliates.

Thank you, Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Award committee, for recognizing our team’s hard work!
